Francis Finnegan, Lisacullion – One hundred years ago, on June 10th 1925, Francis Finnegan, died aged 28 years, in a Canadian hospital, three months after sustaining severe injuries in a mining accident. The Mass in his memory today was arranged by his nephews and niece – James, Tommy, Francie and Martina in memory of an uncle whom they never knew but the story of their uncle’s demise was recorded in letters which remain in family safekeeping to this day. The full story which will be published shortly is a poignant tale of a young Irish emigrant who travelled to Canada to seek his fortune, but sadly died within a short time of arriving in his adoptive country.
Blessing of the Graves, Cemetery Sunday – 6th July, St. Joseph’s. 13th July, St. John’s. 20th July, St. Michael’s.
The Corduff Raferagh Community, the Community Association and past and present Community Centre staff were deeply saddened on Monday last to hear of the passing of PJ Lambe, Dunoge. Not only was PJ’s wife Betty a dedicated staff member in the Centre for many years, but PJ also helped out so much in the background at events – cooking, washing up, moving furniture etc – and all the while adding to the craic, banter and fun of the event. PJ will be deeply missed by all who knew & loved him. To Betty, James, Emma, Rachel, Niall, Padraig, Larry, Martin & the extended Lambe family, we extend our sincerest sympathies. May PJs gentle soul rest in eternal peace.
