Library Staff Visit – Thank you to Breda from Carrickmacross Library who visited the Community Centre on Wednesday evening last to detail the services available on site in the library and also the services available to Community Centres etc.

We think of a library as a place for reading or borrowing books, but the library is much more than that, it is a social hub where activities are available for all age groups from tots to teens, young adults to seniors.  Yes you can read a book, borrow a book or read the newspaper but you can also participate in a variety of organised activities, workshops, presentations and talks.  Some of the groups attending the library are the Knit and Knatter group; Crosswords & Croissants; Parent & Toddler; Lego club; Storytime; Crime Book Club; Bridge Club; Children’s Chess Club; Irish Conversation etc.  Other activities include Movie evenings, access to audio books, join online courses on a variety of topics, printing (for a small fee) or use the onsite public computers.

And all of that is FREE, yes FREE.  You will need to join the Library to avail of the services, but all you need to do is present one of the library staff members with your photo ID and proof of address (e.g. a ESB or telephone bill issued within the past 6 months).

Even if you are unsure about joining, pop in and have a chat with a member of the library staff, they will only be too delighted to assist you.

There is a possibility of starting a local Book Club in the Autumn, in the Corduff Raferagh area, so if you are interested in that, please phone Bernie on 087 9555762.

Thanks again to Breda for her visit, there is so much on offer from your local library and it’s only by having a chat with one of the staff members that you realise there may just well be something there of interest to you.
