The chairperson, Lorcan Hand, opened the meeting and welcomed all present.  He then asked the group’s secretary, Patricia Murtagh to read the minutes of the 2023 AGM.

This was followed by Patricia giving a rundown of events, activities and highlights of the past year in her Secretary’s Report for 2023, which included the launch of CoRa Community Hub and website by Minister Heather Humphries; the 20/40 anniversary celebrations of the opening of the Mountain Dew and the Centre, and the re-launch of the Corduff Calling book; the hosting of the Flowers of May with Eileen Gomez; the school celebration marking Pauline Clarke’s retirement; the Big Breakfast at the blessing of the graves Sunday; the Active Retirement groups 20th anniversary celebration; the children’s Halloween Party; the annual parish Bazaar; Santa’s visit; the genealogy, smartphone & computers classes.

During 2023 our big project was the installation of the lift and upgrading the fire alarm, after obtaining €237,500 from the Community Investment Fund.

During 2023 the Centre and Mountain Dew were used for birthday, christening, anniversary, communion and confirmation parties; funeral receptions; reunions; meetings; heritage events; information evenings; social dancing and fior ceili’s. The Mountain Dew was also used for card, poker & pool competitions, table quizzes, celebrations and presentations.

Groups that use the centre and continued to do so in 2023, include Bright Sparks Playschool and Afterschool, Line Dancing, Sean Nos Dancing, Set Dancing, Ceili Dancing, Active Retirement Group, Bowls, Heritage Group, Pipe Band, Social Dancing, Basketball, along with smaller group classes occasionally.  The centre manager Pauline and her Solas workers, Betty, Agnes, Lisa & Teresa are always on hand to cater for the needs of the community for centre activities.

Throughout 2023 funding was received from various bodies to upgrade the facilities.

Patricia concluded by congratulating all families who welcomed new arrivals in the past year and all those who got married; also expressing condolences to the families who suffered a bereavement.

Patricia thanked all the committee for their hard work throughout the past year and stated that we are always open to new members and new ideas.

Treasurer Ben Woods read out the financial statement of accounts, year ending 31st Aug 2023.

Lorcan thanked all groups, organisations and families that used the facilities throughout the year; Monaghan County Council and all Government departments for the funding received with special thank you to Minister Heather Humphreys.

Lorcan thanked his fellow officers and committee members for all their hard work and dedication as volunteers throughout the year.  He thanked all sponsors of the Corduff Raferagh website.

Lorcan congratulated the Corduff Raferagh Drama group on their success with their play “Where there’s a will there’s a relative”, which raised €10,000 which will help fund the completion of the Lift shaft project which is a massive help to this community project. He thanked Sean Hand construction and staff and all subcontractors involved in this project.

Apologies were expressed for any inconvenience caused to users of the community centre, during the build, and Corduff Gaels & Corduff Handballers were thanked for facilitating the building work.

A vote of sympathy was passed to all the families who lost loved ones in the past year.

As always, Lorcan would like to encourage new members with new ideas to join the committee.

Election of officers was the next item on the agenda.  All officers were re-elected except for the Treasurer who resigned.  Lorcan thanked Ben for his input, work and expertise over the past five years and wished Ben and his bride Leighanne all the best for their upcoming marriage and future plans.  Busy times ahead for Ben.

The meeting concluded with a cuppa and cake to celebrate Ben’s upcoming nuptials.
