Condolences – On Monday morning family, relatives, neighbours and friends will gather in St. Michael’s to say farewell to Sister Alice Keenan, Sreenty and California who passed away on July 13th in California.

Sr. Alice, sister of the late Patsy Keenan, Sreenty, is returning to rest in her native graveyard.  A beautiful obituary for Sr. Alice is available at https://www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/northridge-ca/alice-keenan-11897114, the following is a summary.  “Sr. Alice was born of Thomas and Alice Keenan on September 24, 1934, in Sreenty.  Alice worked for about five years prior to entering the Sisters of St. Louis in 1957.  Three years later she came to the USA and began teaching. Alice was fearless – always willing to accept a new assignment wherever she was needed.  Obtaining many academic accreditation’s over the years, Sr. Alice spent many years in various roles across schools and hospitals in California. In 2003 Alice “retired”, later spending two years in New York, but returned to California.  As her memory started to slip, Sr. Alice resided in various religious institutes, ever active ‘she climbed over the wall at the back of a Chapel to pick flowers at one of the residences. She saw no danger in that – sure she would never fall.’

Poignantly the obituary concludes “It is very appropriate that her cremated remains will be buried in her home parish – through the last number of years she was convinced she was in Sreenty and her home was just around the corner. She was also sure that Uncle Barney was living on the third floor of our two-story building!”

Sr. Alice will be buried with her younger brother Thomas J. Keenan, who returned from Wolverhampton also to rest in his native graveyard in 2012.  Alice was predeceased by her sisters Dettie and Josie.

Extending sincere sympathies to Sr. Alice’s sisters May, Rose & Ann and to the extended Keenan family.  May Sr. Alice rest in eternal peace.
