Mary’s Meals serves nutritious school meals to children living in some of the world’s poorest communities. The promise of a good meal brings hungry children into the classroom, giving them the energy to learn and hope for a better future. We are already feeding 2,429,182 children every school day – and, together, we can reach the next hungry child waiting for Mary’s Meals. It cost just €22 to feed a child for an entire school year. We would like to express our thanks and acknowledge the most recent donations totaling €1572.00 to Mary Meals. Anyone who wishes to give to this Charity can leave their donation in the Parish Office.

Carrickmacross Comholtas Concert – There was a great turnout last Saturday at our annual branch concert in Corduff Raferagh Community Centre.  Special thanks to the Centre committee who looked after us all so well.  This was a great opportunity for all the music, singing and dancing students to showcase their progress over the last term.  It was great also to have our teachers and some of the senior members of the branch perform.  A presentation was made to our longstanding fiddle teacher Noreen McManus who has decided to cut back on her teaching hours but fortunately not on her playing.  We wish her every success with her future plans.  Following the concert there was a cuppa in the centre and after that a session downstairs in the Mountain Dew bar which drew a great crowd of musicians, singers and dancers.

Santa Claus arrived at Corduff Raferagh Community Centre last Sunday and all the little folk enjoyed their encounter with Santa, having a chat, getting memorable photos, a present and bopping to the disco afterwards.  The adults enjoyed the occasion just as much as the children.  Well done to all involved for the huge effort put in over the past few weeks and on the day, particularly thanks to Santa for bringing so much joy to the children, to Joan, Pauline and the Byrne family for your help, guidance, assistance and Trojan work, it is very much recognised and appreciated.

Busy Weekend – The Santa event on Sunday concluded an extremely busy weekend in the Community Centre with something for all age groups.  Thanks to Pauline and her team of elves who were kept on their toes and went above and beyond to ensure everyone had an enjoyable experience in our Community Centre.

Book Launch – Congratulations to Gerard Fealy, who launched his book last week titled ‘Coolfore, West Farney and the National School System 1826-1968’, which chronicles Coolfore School from its inception until its closure in 1968.  It also incorporates many aspects of the Irish National School System in that time period, as well as touching on the surrounding National Schools including Corcreagh, Corduff, Corvally and Sreenty. This is a perfect Christmas gift.  Last Friday night the Heritage Group hosted an enjoyable book signing event in the Mountain Dew.  The book is available to purchase online at Wordwell Books (link below), or contact Gerard or the Heritage Group.
