Table Quiz – A very successful Table Quiz took place on Friday night last in the Mountain Dew in aid of the Cavan Branch of Parkinson’s Ireland.  The Hanratty family who organised the event wish to thank everyone who came along supported the event.  The family are overwhelmed by everyone’s generosity, with €1165 raised on the night.  The event was well attended and the craic mighty.  Well done to all involved.

Fíor Céilí – While the Mountain Dew was buzzing with Quizzers on Friday night last, the Main Hall was also buzzing with a large attendance at the Fíor Céilí.  Lively music was supplied by the Michael Duffy Céilí Band – Michael, Sean, Brian & Padraig, keeping everyone on their toes.  Some dancers travelled over an hour to attend, such is the enthusiasm for the Fíor Céilí.  When the 16 Hand Reel was called, 6 groups took to the floor, filling all available dance space, and there were still a few who remained seated looking on.  Those present were treated to a selection of home baked cakes and treats, which were thoroughly enjoyed by all.  It was a really lively and enjoyable Céilí thanks to Rosaleen and her assistants who organised the event.  A minutes silence was observed for the late Gerry Muldoon, Castleblayney, a former member of the Michael Duffy Céilí Band.  Gerry played with the band at numerous Céilí’s in the Community Centre.  May he rest in peace.

Thank you to Pauline, Agnese, Betty & Lisa who were kept very busy in the kitchen on Friday night, supplying food and copious pots of tea upstairs and downstairs.  Much appreciated ladies.

Corduff Raferagh Active Retirement group planted a tree at the Community Centre entrance last week.  The group picked up some native species saplings which Monaghan County Council gave out to communities, to be planted in public spaces during the National Tree Week, which took place earlier this month.  Well done to CRAR, always busy and participating in worthwhile initiatives.

Graveyard Research – Work continues on mapping and listing the local graveyards at St. Michael’s, St. John’s, Carrickmaclim and St. Patrick’s Ardragh.  Many people have come forward with additional information such as maiden names, locations of where some of the families lived, trades they were involved in etc.  We have also received a lot of information on individuals who are buried in the graveyards, but whose resting place is not marked.  If you have any information you can share with us please get in touch with any member of the Heritage group as we want to gather as much detail as possible and preserve this information.  Don’t assume we already know.
