Busy weekend at the Community Centre – This was another busy weekend in the Centre, and isn’t it wonderful to have such a facility with such wonderful staff.  On Friday night the hall was buzzing for Patsy Finnegan’s 90th birthday party.  On Saturday afternoon, two families celebrated First Holy Communion in the hall.  Then on Saturday night, social dancers took to the floor.  Thanks to all the staff who were busy preparing for the events over the past few days – Pauline, Betty, Teresa, Agnese, Lisa, Geraldine, Mairead and all the volunteers who chipped in to give a hand, it is all very much appreciated.  Special thanks to Agnese who beautifully decorated the hall for the events.

Computer Class – Well done to the seven participants who took part in the Beginners Computer class which was held over the last few months in the Centre.  Corduff Raferagh Community Association would like to sincerely thank the CMETB who provided Leona, the tutor, so we could facilitate the class in the Centre.  Prior to the Computer class, Leona also tutored a very successful Using your Smartphone/iPad/Tablet course which also proved very popular and enjoyable for the participants.  At Monday morning’s final class, three participants were absent, but those present were very complimentary of the course, along with learning new skills they enjoyed the social aspect of the Monday morning class.  Thanks to Leona for her expertise, sharing her knowledge and the craic.  We look forward to future collaboration with the CMETB to bring further Adult Education opportunities to our Community Centre.

Nancy & Bernard McGouran are returning to Corduff Raferagh Community Centre on May 29th to share photos and videos of Nancy’s extended family in Canada and highlights of their previous visits to Corduff.  For many years Nancy née Marrin and her husband Bernard have carried out extensive research to find where Nancy’s ancestor Phillip Marron hailed from.  A breakthrough was made just before covid and they returned with Nancy’s octogenarian uncle Joe Marrin last year.  For anyone who would like to join Nancy, Bernard and the Heritage Group on May 29th at 7 pm in the Conference Room in the Centre for Nancy’s slide show, you are more than welcome to come along and hear the story of Phillip and his family in Canada and the quest to find his homestead.
