Blessing of the Graves – It’s been a busy few weeks for families, volunteers, committee members and CE staff preparing the grounds and graveyards at St. John’s & St. Michael’s for the annual blessing ceremonies. A tremendous effort was put in to have the sites looking neat and tidy. It is, after all, a noble tribute to our family members who rest in our local graveyards. Hopefully, though, families will not forget to come back over the coming weeks and remove decaying arrangements or pots from their family plots, don’t “hide” them behind the headstone, take them home and dispose of them properly please.
Parish Cemeteries Collections – We would like to sincerely thank you for your kind generosity and financial support. The total collection for St Joseph’s Cemetery was €11,745.00, St John’s Cemetery Raferagh was €1,210.00 and St Michael’s Cemetery Corduff was €3,375.00. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all those involved, the Volunteers, the Collectors and the Counters for their time and dedication and the Cemetery Committee for their on-going work. Your continued support for the upkeep of our Cemeteries is greatly appreciated.
The Big Breakfast on Sunday last was a huge success once again. The day started with a minutes silence in the kitchen for the late PJ Lambe, who helped out for many years cooking the eggs, which was not an easy task, but always conducted with diligence & craic. A big thank you to Ann Hand, Nigel McGivney & Pauline who helped keep the food supplied to the ladies serving the food. Thanks to Marian Maggs for organising seats for everyone. To all the centre staff and many volunteers who worked to help feed & water everyone, without your help this event would not happen. To everyone who came along, thank you very much, your support is very much appreciated. Our sponsors are at the heart of a success Big Breakfast, so thank you to Lidl, Carrickmacross; Farney Foods; Karen Keenan; Cathal Connolly & the wonderful local ladies for their home baking & jam making – Anna Ward, Teresa Daly,& Sinead Finnegan.

Message in a Bottle is a simple idea that encourages people to keep their basic medical details in a common place, where, in cases of emergency, the Emergency teams can easily access them. The information required is very basic but necessary. A plastic bottle is provided on request by the local Lions Clubs (our local contact is Paddy Gollogly 086 0439084). A form is completed with medical details, including current medications etc, it is placed in the bottle for you to place in your fridge. Three stickers are provided to stick on your front door, back door and fridge door, so in case of emergency, service providers know where to find all your necessary medical details. This is a wonderful initiative led by Lions Clubs throughout Ireland, which the local LC is promoting and facilitating in this area and across Co. Monaghan. If you would like to receive a bottle for a relative, neighbour or friend please contact Paddy Gollogly on 086 0439084.
