90 Birthday Celebration – Corduff Pipe Band were delighted to celebrate the 90th Birthday of the one and only PJ Finnegan on Friday May 22nd. PJ has been in the band since he was 18, giving him a record breaking 72 years piping. This year he performed at three St. Patrick’s Day Parades, in Kingscourt, Bailieboro and Carrick, after milking his cows that morning! He’s a busy man. The 90th celebration started in St. Michael’s, Corduff with Mass celebrated by Fr. Owen Joe McEneaney. The Mass opened with a rendition of Amazing Grace by the band on the altar as well as the Highland Cathedral and PJs favourite the Rose of Aranmore at the end of the ceremony. We then played and marched to the Community Centre and had a great night celebrating, with good food, a few drinks, good company and some more music. Wishing PJ many more years of health and happiness from all his band family.
The Annual May Procession in honour of Our Lady took place in glorious sunshine at Raferagh on May 27th, a longstanding and beautiful old tradition in the area. The Procession starts at Shorts cross, with participants reciting the Rosary on route to the grotto behind St. John’s. The evening concluded with the celebration of Mass in the church. It is always lovely to see the recent First Communicants participate in Procession and thanks to the parents for bringing them along.
