Busy 24 hours – The staff had a busy 24 hours in the Community Centre since Friday night when the Handball Club Presentation night took place in the Mountain Dew. On Saturday morning Community Games presentations took place in the main hall, and later the victorious U14 girls returned to celebrate their might achievement earlier in the day. Then on Saturday night the Social dancers took to the floor. Thanks to Pauline and her team for taking care of all of these groups and all the in between work. Also thank you to all the groups for celebrating their successes in the Community Centre.
Line Dancing returns in October, date to be announced.
Congratulations to Corduff Under 14 girls team who were victorious in the Championship Final yesterday. Well done to all involved.
Congratulations to Mae Garvey, native of Carrickmaclim who celebrated a very Special Birthday on Friday last, 100 years and still flying. Wishing Mae best wishes from all her friends in the Corduff Raferagh Community.
Corduff Raferagh Community Association – At last Wednesday evenings CRCA meeting a vote of sympathy was extended to the families, relatives and friends of Pat Joe Callan and Anna Carolan. May they rest in eternal peace.
Defibrillator Fundraiser – Sincere Thank You to all who took part in last Sunday’s Defib Fundraiser Walk / Run / Cycle / Ramble and to all who donated. Thank you to Tess O’Connor for organising the event, Tess literally always has her Community at Heart with Sunday’s fundraiser going towards upgrading the Defibrillator located at Corcreagh national school. It is a vital piece of equipment for all members of the Community as we never know when a member of our families will need it. €1250 has been raised thus far, so if you didn’t get a chance to donate yet, you’re not late, you can drop off your donation with Tess or Breda at Corcreagh NS.
Raferagh Ramble – As part of the Defib Fundraiser, Corduff Raferagh Heritage Group organised a ramble along the same route as those running, cycling or briskly walking the route. Blessed with a perfect day for the task, it took us 3 hours to get around the route, definitely one of the longest, but it was worth every minute of it as it was thoroughly enjoyable. Thanks to Maura Garvey, a font of knowledge, who shared her memories of the families who lived along the route in her childhood days, sharing beautiful stories and anecdotes. Thanks also to Bernie M and Rosaleen who joined in with local knowledge. It’s amazing how in a relatively short space of time, how many families have died out in the area or moved elsewhere, but also lovely to see new homes and families in the area.
Pickleball – Thanks to Cillian from Monaghan Sports Partnership and Michael from Blackrock Pickleball club who came to the Community Centre on Monday morning last to demonstrate a sport that is one of the fastest growing new sports in the world. The taster session was great fun, giving the 12 participants who turned up a great feel for the sport. This week was European Week of Sports 2024, so it was great to kick off a new activity for our Community Centre during this special week. Pickleball is a cross between tennis and badminton, with its own unique paddles and soft ball. Many retired or semi-retired people are taking up the sport for the social and exercise benefits. You don’t have to be a sports person to play the game, many who play Pickleball are new to sport and enjoying their new found interest. If you would like more details call Bernie on 087 9555762 or Pauline on 087 2977091. Over the coming weeks we will bring you more details as equipment is purchased for the Community Centre and set up.
Litter – Sadly our roadways are getting grubby again due to litter. Please dispose of your litter in a proper bin.
Monaghan Field Names Pilot project 2024 – Work is progressing on the collection of Field names for the county project. This current pilot scheme will close on Oct 18th, leaving it tight for collecting field names and marking up the maps. To facilitate the collection of data we are inviting property owners to come to the Community Centre for two Mapping Days. We are using the old Ordnance Survey Maps which we have printed out and numbered each field, garden, haggard etc in each townland. So it is just a matter of connecting a field name to a field number. This information will be added to the Loganim.ie website. GDPR is very important with this project, so only our numbers and your field names are added to the system. Property owners are not added to the system. If you could spare a little time on Sunday 6th October from 2 pm – 5 pm, to help us out, or on Monday 7th October from 10 am – 4 pm, we would very much appreciate your assistance. For further details contact Bernie on 087 9555762 or Mary on 087 2251487
Sreenty Road Closure – Monaghan County Council is currently working on the L8011 at Sreenty Bridge, so the road will be closed from 2nd – 27th Sept to facilitate bridge rehabilitation works. This is close to Sonny McConnon’s home, Sreenty.
