Altar Servers Recruitment: May I take this opportunity to say, ‘Thank you’ and ‘Well done’ to our teams of Servers and their parents, for enabling our liturgies to be enhanced with young people serving at the Altar over the past two years. Some of the senior Servers are retiring and we wish them well for the future when they may become part of the other ministries in our Church. We are now seeking new recruits from 5th and 6th class to come forward to join the teams we have in place. The priests have already spoken to the pupils in the schools and some children and parents have already signed up for this. If you wish to become an Altar Server, or if parents would like to find out more about this wonderful ministry, please speak to one of the priests or the office staff. All Church activities for children are under the direction and guidance of the Child Safeguarding Committee in the parish.

CORMAGH – At the recent CORMAGH AGM held in the beautiful new Magheracloone Community Centre, representatives of the Community Association and Heritage Group attended the meeting.  Both groups are very fortunate to have wonderful Community Employment workers helping out with the day to day running of the Centre and in gathering and recording local heritage.  If it were not for the Community Employment schemes the volunteers who already do Trojan work would be completely overwhelmed.  We would like to sincerely thank Rosie Mills who is always at hand to recruit new CE Employees and help our Community out in any way.  We would also like to wish everyone involved in the beautiful new Community Centre in Magheracloone all the best with their fabulous new facilities and to all who use the facilities.

Monaghan Field Names Pilot project 2024 – We had two wonderful Field Name Mapping events in the Community Centre on Sunday and Monday last, where a number of land owners assisted in adding their field names to our maps.  We are extremely grateful to all who came along as it is quite difficult to call house to house in such a short time space to gather this info. Great information was gathered, not just field names, but also brae names, place names, wells, kilns and other structures etc.  We also heard many stories, anecdotes and learned more about our local area. The current pilot scheme will close on Oct 18th, leaving it tight for collecting field names and marking up the maps.  GDPR is very important with this project, so only our numbers and your field names are added to the system.  Property owners are not added.  If you have information that you would like to share with us please get in touch over the next week.  For further details contact Bernie on 087 9555762 or Mary on 087 2251487.

This area along with Doohamlet and Tyholland were selected as the three areas to take part in the Pilot Project, each working under the Clogher Historical Society who were tasked with overseeing the project on behalf of Monaghan County Council.  Once all our information is submitted to the Clogher Historical Society they will proceed with uploading the field names to the loganim.ie website, which contains “the Placenames Database of Ireland: This is a comprehensive management system for the placenames data, records and research of the State.  It is a public resource for Irish people at home and abroad, and for all those who appreciate the rich heritage of Irish placenames.”  CHS will make their final presentation of the field-names project to Monaghan County Council in Doohamlet Community Centre on Tuesday 29th October at 7.30pm, this is open to anyone who would like to attend and see how the pilot scheme went across the county.
