Storm Éowyn very much made its presence felt in this neck of the woods with a lot of damage to buildings and trees. Slate damage occurred at St. Michael’s, the parochial house and St. John’s. Many of the trees in the plantan behind St. Michael’s were flattened or severely damaged, thankfully falling away from the church and the graves just beneath them. The loss of power, communications systems and water along with the cold weather made the whole situation dire. Our thanks to the all who faced out in terrible conditions to ensure utilities were replaced as soon as was possible.
Sad News – At the height of storm Éowyn , we were deeply saddened to learn that Tom Larkin took his leave of this world and left us with the wind, leaving his family bereft at his sad passing. In his early years Tom frequently visited his relatives in Umerafree, Sreenty and Cornasassonagh with his dad Mick. And on one of those trips to Umerafree, while visiting Marron’s shop, he set his eye on Patsy & Josie’s daughter and as they say the rest is history. Tom was a great supporter of events in Corduff – in the Centre, St. Michael’s, heritage etc and a constant in the Marron family circle. He will be truly missed by us all. To Mary, Laura, Michéal, Dervla, Mai, Bernadette, Josephine and the extended Larkin family we extend sincere sympathies from the Corduff Raferagh Community. May Tom’s admirably gentle and genuine soul rest in eternal peace.
Corduff Raferagh Heritage Group extends sincere condolences to the Larkin family, Tossey on the passing of a much loved husband, father, grandfather and brother – Tom. Tom was a wonderful supporter of the group, participating in rambles, attending events, gathering historical records related to Corduff and Raferagh whenever he visited archives or libraries. Indeed only 10 days before he entered hospital he attended our first Field Name Workshop such was his enthusiasm for all things local history and heritage. His gentle and knowledgeable presence will be missed by our group members. To Mary, Laura, Michéal, Dervla, Mai, Bernadette, Josephine and all members of the Larkin family we extend sincere condolences. Rest in Peace Tom.
