Message in a Bottle is a simple idea that encourages people to keep their basic medical details in a common place, where, in cases of emergency, the Emergency teams can easily access them. The information required is very basic but necessary.  A plastic bottle is provided on request by the local Lions Clubs (our local contact is Paddy Gollogly 086 0439084).  A form is completed with medical details, including current medications etc, it is placed in the bottle for you to place in your fridge.  Three stickers are provided to stick on your front door, back door and fridge door, so in case of emergency, service providers know where to find all your necessary medical details.  This is a wonderful initiative led by Lions Clubs throughout Ireland, which the local LC is promoting and facilitating in this area and across Co. Monaghan.  If you would like to receive a bottle for a relative, neighbour or friend please contact Paddy Gollogly on 086 0439084.

Mass Celebration at Greaghlatacapple Mass Rock – After a beautiful weekend last weekend and a pleasant day on Wednesday, unfortunately Thursday’s weather didn’t bode well for visiting Greaghlatacapple Mass Rock.  A day of watching the forecast done little to alleviate what was going on outside, rain, rain and more rain.  For safety reasons for all, we had to make the decision not to cross the fields, but to hope that a window of opportunity would open in the weather to at least have the Mass in the townland of Greaghlatacapple.  And thankfully by 6 pm, the skies brightened enough for us to proceed outdoors.

During Mass Fr. Pat remembered his cousin Rose Callan and Tom Larkin, both of whom were present at last year’s Mass, a special intention for someone who was having surgery at the time of the Mass was also included.

Fr. Pat was thanked for his dedication each year for celebrating this special Mass for our community, it is always a very special occasion.  Thanks was also extend to Terence, who is always delighted to see everyone assemble for this beautiful event.

If it were not for the Deery family’s canopy, we would not have been able to have the Mass outdoors, so sincere thank you to Michéal.  The whole evening was enhanced by Edel and the choir members, and those who helped in the preparation or on the evening including Gerry, Pat, Patrick, Rose, Margaret, Mary, Margaret, Pauline & Linda.

Sadly each year we acknowledge those that we have lost, but it is always lovely to see new faces and this year was no exception, with quite a few new faces in the crowd.  Three very special guest all the way from Perth were in attendance Alice, Shannon & Erin, following in the footsteps of Patsy the Postman and Kathleen.

Afterwards we had our usual cup of tea in the Community Centre, with time to catch up with neighbours and friends.  And then the heaven’s opened and the rain appeared again.  So we were well and truly blessed for the short time we assembled in Greaghlatacapple.
