Without doubt we dodged the clouds on Sunday for the Corduff Raferagh Community Fun Run/Walk, we were very lucky to have had a dry spell for those participating. On our return to the Centre Luke, Shannon and Liam gave demonstrations on how to use a defibrillator and what to do in the case of an emergency. The simplicity of using the system has diminished the fear factor for those who may need to use a defibrillator in the future. Although the cabinets containing the defibs have a keypad, you do not need a number, you simply open the cabinet and take the defib pack with you to the emergency site. The machine gives verbal instructions once switched on and it also has pictorial instructions, but if you ever get a chance to watch a demonstration it makes the process less daunting. Paddy was also on hand to explain the Message in a Bottle initiative and the Community Alert system which many of those present availed of. A trip to the Community Centre would not be complete without a cuppa, so thanks to Pauline, Geraldine and Agnese for keeping the tea flowing and thanks to the bakers Margaret, John and Sinead for the lovely home baked delights. A special thanks to all who came out on the day for the walk or to observe the demonstration and all who gave donations, it was a worthwhile afternoon and I’m sure everyone benefited from it.
