Fior Céilí – A very enjoyable Céilí took place in the Centre on Friday night last with wonderful live music by Michael, Sean, Padraig and Brian, keeping everyone on the toes all night.  Lovely refreshments were enjoyed by all.  Thank you to Rosaleen and her team for organising such a lovely night and thanks to all who helped out in any way.

Jivingym is coming to Corduff Raferagh Community Centre (A81 A263) for four weeks, starting on Thursday April 9 with a beginner’s class starting at 7 pm and a Jivercise class starting at 8.15 pm.  You can join one of the classes or if your feeling energetic there is a discount for attending both classes.

Litter – An Taisce’s National Spring Clean for 2026 takes place during the month of April. Last year 5,250 groups registered for the clean-up and collected an estimated 2,700 tonnes of litter. Sadly our local roadsides are looking terrible due to the continued littering by just a few constant offenders. Beverage containers seem to make up the majority of the litter that commuters are throwing out of their vehicles. As it has been a few years since a co-ordinated Spring Clean has taken place in the Corduff Raferagh area (many diligent community members have done their own litter pick), so we are setting aside one hour (just one hour of your time) for a Community effort to clean up the litter on our roadsides.

When – Wednesday April 8th

Time – 7 – 8 pm.

Followed by a cuppa in the Mountain Dew

Trócaire 2026 – TheTrócaire Box this year has a photograph of Uwamahoro and her family outside their crumbling home in Rwanda. “We share one cup, one plate, one saucepan. We share everything” Uwamahoro says. In Rwanda what used to be rare, once-in-a-generation storms now return every year, before families can even recover from the last. Your donation could help rebuild homes destroyed by floods – repairing storm damage, providing water tanks, planting kitchen gardens and supporting woman to diversify their income. It could supply stoves for cooking and gardens to keep children fed. Please give what you can by donating online at trocaire.org/box, calling freephone 1800 408 408 or returning your Trócaire Box to your local school or parish by Easter Sunday, 5th April 2026

Busy Weekend – It’s been a busy weekend in the Centre with the Céilí, Poker and Social Dancing – thanks to all the staff for all their hard work and input.

Corduff Pipe Band had a busy start to their 2026 season. Their first St. Patrick’s Day Parade was in Inniskeen on 8th March, which was a bright sunny Sunday. After the parade, they joined with Aughnamullen and Carlingford Pipe Bands to give a rapturous performance of Raglin Road at the crossroads. On St. Patrick’s Day the band had 27 band members on tour, with the oldest member PJ Finnegan (at almost 90!) stepping it out for his 72nd year with the band to their newest members Oisin McCusker and Tyler Cruikshank, both sixth class pupils, out for their first St. Patrick’s Day. The first performance was for St. Patrick’s Scouts in Dundalk, where after raising the flag to the National Anthem at the scout’s hall, a large number of scouts followed the band through the main streets of Dundalk to St. Patrick’s Church. After a quick pit stop for refreshments, the next stop for the band was down the long main street of Kingscourt, stopping at the viewing stand and then back on the bus to Bailieborough, where we were first in line in the Parade after St. Patrick himself on horseback, through the crowded main street. Back on the bus and on the windy road back to Carrick, where the band proudly march up the main street to the large home crowd. The rain stayed away and all members were ready for more refreshments after the busy day, which ended with a sing-song. The band received an award for second place for best band in the Carrickmacross parade from Monaghan County Council, which was picked up by our long-standing member James Finnegan, Piper Declan McConnon and new Piper Tim McCann. Well done to the band for entertaining the masses and the future looks bright for Corduff Pipe Band.
